Studio Policy

  • Students are considered fully enrolled within the studio once they or their guardians have scheduled and paid for their first lesson. Lessons may be terminated by the teacher if the student or guardian does not abide by studio polices. Students must provide one month notice if they wish to cancel any reoccurring lesson packages. Studio policy is subject to change.

    • All lessons must be booked through Acuity Scheduling at least 24 hours in advance.

    • Lessons may be rescheduled with a minimum of 24 hours notice prior to the originally scheduled time. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours notice will not be rescheduled or refunded.

    • If a lesson is canceled by the teacher, it will be eligible for a make-up session.

    • Students are expected to arrive on time for their scheduled lessons, whether online or in person. Late arrivals will not extend the scheduled lesson time.

    • If a student arrives more than 15 minutes late without prior notification, the lesson will be considered canceled without the possibility of rescheduling.

    • All lessons, with the exception of trial lessons, within a given month must be pre-paid upon scheduling, either via an emailed invoice or through a saved credit card on file through Acuity.

    • Trial lessons require a saved credit card on file to book. The card will not be charged until after the trial lesson has been completed.

    • Students may opt to have their saved credit card charged on a monthly basis for pre-booked lessons. Payments will be processed before the first scheduled lesson of the month.

    • Monthly invoices are calculated based on the number of scheduled lessons in each month. Payments are due by the first lesson of the month or within 5 days of receiving an invoice. Approved make-up lessons will be credited towards the following monthly invoice.

    • Lessons will be suspended if payment is over two weeks delayed unless an alternative payment agreement has been previously agreed upon by both teacher and student or guardian. Notification of suspension will be sent via email or phone.

    • Pre-paid lessons are non-refundable. If a lesson is cancelled with a minimum of 24 hours of notice, the student is eligible to schedule a make-up lesson using the remaining balance.

  • Overview

The home studio is a separate room with closing doors in a home residence. Students and any accompanying family members are asked to remain in the studio and are not allowed to enter any other rooms with the exception of the restroom. Students under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their guardian at all times. Guardians are required to remain in the studio with their child for the entirety of the lesson. A student may be accompanied by a maximum of three family members in the studio.

    Instrument

Proper care of the instrument is essential to ensure the safety of the student, teacher, and the piano. Students are only allowed to touch the piano with explicit instruction from the teacher to do so. No beverages or items may be placed on the instrument. Students may not move, bang, hit, scratch, or otherwise damage the instrument. The lesson will be terminated if the student does not follow instructions regarding the handling of the instrument. Damage caused to the instrument by the student will be immediately documented in the presence of both student and guardian (if applicable). The instrument will be assessed by a technician and insurance company and the family will be responsible for the resulting repair bill.

    Studio Parking

Students are responsible for securing parking. The studio does not assume liability for parking tickets, any damage to the vehicle or the contents within the vehicle once parked at the studio location.

  • Online lessons will be conducted through Zoom. Students will be provided with the Zoom link for their lesson 24 hours ahead of their scheduled lesson as well as instructions on how to prepare their device and optimize Zoom for a music lesson. The camera must be set up to enable a full view of the hands and upper body of the student for the lesson to proceed.

Students who opt for online lessons must have access to at least one, charged electronic device, (preferably a laptop or iPad) for their lessons and any necessary device holders. They are responsible for ensuring adequate internet connection with dedicated 1.8 mbps of upload and download speed per device.

Lessons interrupted by a technology failure or a power outage can be re-scheduled if the student or guardian notifies the teacher before or during the scheduled lesson time regarding the technology or power failure.

  • Students must have regular access to either an acoustic piano or a weighted key electric piano to practice between regularly scheduled lessons. The teacher can provide information on choosing an appropriate electric instrument for each student’s particular level and studying goals.

Piano maintenance and regular tuning is an essential aspect of owning an an acoustic instrument and is the responsibility of the student or guardian.

Note: An electric piano can only benefit a student for a limited amount of time; an acoustic piano is necessary for mastery of the instrument and is recommended for late beginner students and above.

  • Progress can not be achieved without consistent practice. Students should practice at least 3-5 days per week to complete all assignments from their previous lesson. Practicing time requirements vary for each student and should be frequently discussed with the teacher throughout the year to ensure optimal results.

  • Students or their guardians are responsible for purchasing required music books as well as any optional supplementary materials.
